New York – the city that never sleeps, a city that many people strive to go to in their international travel plans and a city that plenty of celebrities call home. It is hard to describe New York to those that haven’t been – the trends and the constant buzz about the place & seemingly something relating to a celebrity on every corner. You’ll find celebrity tours you can book, restaurants proud of the famous faces that have eaten there and of course, Broadway littered with opportunities to see celebrities in a range of live theatre shows. It really is a city that offers up so much more and something different from pretty much anywhere else in the world, no wonder so many celebrities call New York home.

With 48 recognised stars being born in New York City there is bound to be a name or two on the list that you recognise, even if you’re not someone that is up to date on celebrity culture. In fact, New York is the birthplace of 14 Academy Award winners including Adrien Brody and Christopher Walken – when it comes to famous people from New York, we’re not talking about small fish here!

When you look at Spotify and their most-streamed artist lists, people from New York take up 8 of the top spots! However, it isn’t just actors and singers that call New York home, it has also been home to several Nobel Prize winners including physicist Burton Richter and biologist David Baltimore; quite an incredible accolade for the city.

Why Do They Love New York City So Much?

Everyone who lives in New York City will have their own reasons for doing so and their own things that they love about living in such a busy part of the world and celebrities are no exception.

For example, Bill Murray says “My favourite thing about New York is the people because I think they’re misunderstood. I don’t think people realize how kind New York people are…” and Amy Poehler has talked about her love of living in New York when her career started out. “There’s something so romantic about being broke in New York. You gotta do it. You have to live there once without any money, and then you have to live there when you have money”, she says.

Even the legendary spoke about her love of New York and how nowhere else in the world compares – “That’s my favourite place in the world, so far, that I’ve seen. I haven’t travelled much, but I don’t think I’ll find anything to replace Brooklyn.” And Lana Del Rey talked about New York with love and how it inspires her to write “A lot of the time when I write about the person that I love, I feel like I’m writing about New York. “

So, there are plenty of famous people that call New York home and lots of them talk about New York with so much love, so if you haven’t been there before it could be time for a visit?
