Vaping for Beginners – What to Expect and Ask Your First Time at a Vape Shop

If you have decided to switch to vaping, you probably have tons of questions.

What should you expect the first time you walk into a vape shop?

What should you get?

Read on to find the answers to these questions and more.

First time in the door

When you walk in a vape shop for the first time, it can be easy to get overwhelmed.

There are many types of vape devices and vape juices.

Take the time to get to know each device — how they work, what their limits are, and what experience you should expect with each one.

Have a discussion with the clerk about your level of experience with vaping and smoking cigarettes.

The clerk will likely ask you how many cigarettes you smoke and how often to help you determine the proper device and vape juice.

Questions to ask

One of the most important questions to ask is regarding vape juice.

Most vape juice is made of some combination of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), flavour, and nicotine.

Having a discussion with the clerk about the level of nicotine in the vape juice is a good idea, especially if you are trying to switch from smoking cigarettes to vaping.

If you buy a refillable device, you should ask which vape juice is appropriate for your coils and device.

Keep in mind that some devices and coils prefer a certain VG or PG dense vape juice, whereas others can handle any levels you throw at it.

You can also ask about flavours — some vape stores allow you to test flavours, others can describe them to you so you get the idea.

An atomizer is a heating element which turns the liquid into a vapour. There are usually three parts to an atomizer — a heating coil, mesh bridge, and a wick.

What to look for

After talking to the clerk, they will likely point you towards the more basic devices.

A mod device which will produce huge clouds and allow you to control flavour and all other aspects may sound cool, but you honestly should start small.

Find a device that either works on a sensored draw or a simple button to press and hold while drawing.

Keep in mind that vaping is a slightly different experience from smoking cigarettes, and you may cough until you get used to drawing and inhaling.

Choose a simple vape juice — tobacco flavoured, or maybe a light fruity one.

The first time you walk into a vape shop might leave you a little confused — there are so many options.

Keep in mind that most of the people in the store have been where you are today — ready to give up cigarettes, but not knowing truly what they need or want.

The highest amount of nicotine you can get in e-juice is 20 mg, which is decent for a full-time pack a day smoker.

When you walk into the store, you will be greeted by happy people willing to help as much as they can.

When assembling your pen mod vape device, you start at the battery — ensuring it is charged.

The battery can also contain the circuitry for the device — often called a mod.

The battery connects to the tank or atomizer.

Make sure you prime your coil before you put the tank or atomizer.

To prime the coil, simply add a little e-juice onto the coil, to saturate it.

Fill the tank with e-juice, then screw all pieces together — ensuring not to overfill it.

Finally, you can screw the mouthpiece on and allow the e-liquid to soak into the wick before using it for the first time.

So, when you get there, come prepared with the knowledge you’ve learned and the questions you need to ask.

Be prepared to walk away with your new vape device and the freedom from cigarettes you deserve.

When it comes to settings for your vape device, it is primarily a matter of personal choice and the coil you use.

When you first start vaping, it is wise to start with a pre-set device that has simple controls, unless you know the technicalities of the settings and what you want or need.
